Fishpeople | Lives Transformed by the Sea

To some, the ocean is a fearsome place. But to others, it’s a limitless world of fun, freedom and opportunity where life can be lived to the full.

There is no questions that we, as water people, are affected by the bodies of water surrounding us. Research shows that individuals who are closely associated to water in their daily lives (Blue Mind, by Wallace Nichols) even have a greater capacity for happiness. In Patagonia’s film Fishpeople, Director Keith Malloy explores several of those lives that are changed, challenged and triumphed by their associations to the open sea.

Fishpeople tells the stories of a unique cast of characters who have dedicated their lives to the sea. From surfers and spearfishers, to a long-distance swimmer, a former coal miner and a group of at-risk kids on the streets of San Francisco, it’s a film about the transformative effects of time spent in the ocean.
